To behold His beauty,<br \/>\nWhile by His fragrance fanned,<br \/>\nWhere glory-glory dwelleth<br \/>\nIn Immanuel&#8217;s land.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Verse 4<\/strong><br \/>\nThe King there in His beauty,<br \/>\nWithout a veil is seen:<br \/>\nIt were a well spent journey,<br \/>\nThough seven deaths lay between:<br \/>\nThe Lamb with His fair army,<br \/>\nDoth on Mount Zion stand,<br \/>\nAnd glory-glory dwelleth<br \/>\nIn Immanuel&#8217;s land.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Verse 5<\/strong><br \/>\nO I am my Beloved&#8217;s<br \/>\nAnd my Beloved&#8217;s mine!<br \/>\nHe brings a poor vile sinner<br \/>\nInto His &#8220;house of wine.&#8221;<br \/>\nI stand upon His merit-<br \/>\nI know no other stand,<br \/>\nI&#8217;ll have no Rock beside Him<br \/>\nIn Immanuel&#8217;s land.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Verse 6<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Bride eyes not her garment,<br \/>\nBut her dear Bridegroom&#8217;s face<br \/>\nI will not gaze at glory<br \/>\nBut on my King of Grace.<br \/>\nNot at the crown He giveth<br \/>\nBut on His pierced hand;<br \/>\nThe Lamb is all the glory<br \/>\nOf Immanuel&#8217;s land.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><b>About the Song<\/b><br \/>\n&#8220;Anne Cousin was affected by Samuel Rutherford&#8217;s ministry in Scotland. From him, she had learned so much. He was a pastor in a place called Anworth by the Solway. He was arrested for preaching and, after a period in jail, was summoned to appear before the king. He died before being able to respond to the charges brought against him. Many of his choice phrases made an indelible impression on Anne. She assembled them together. As a result, she wrote one of the greatest Christian hymns, &#8216;In Immanuel&#8217;s Land&#8217;. The original rendering has nineteen verses.
